This session was led by Wigan-based artist, Anna FC Smith, and her research for the exhibition, 'Our House of Common Weeds', into the potency of karaoke as a space of jovial and unmediated humanity. She introduced the group to Greek Rebetiko music and its place as a popular space of expression and revelry within Greek society. Together we read an essay by Yiannis Zaimakis called ‘Bawdy Songs and Virtuous Politics’ (2009), drank ouzo and listened to some Rebetiko.
